About Claire

My name is Claire.

I am a student of yoga.

Everything I offer begins there.

I have been practising yoga since 1998, and teaching since 2011, and over the years my relationship with yoga has deepened from something I do into something I live. My teaching has been shaped not only by the many years I have spent studying and teaching, but by my own experience of life, its demands, its transitions, its tenderness, and its invitations to slow down and listen more deeply.

I walk the householder path and am a mother of three. For me, yoga is not separate from everyday life. It is found in the midst of family, responsibility, love, uncertainty and the ordinary rhythms of being human. It continually brings me back to what is here, rather than what I think should be here.

My practice is also deeply devotional. I am currently studying Vedic philosophy with my teacher, and this study continues to deepen my understanding of yoga as a spiritual path, one concerned not simply with the body, but with how we relate to ourselves, to life, and ultimately to that which is greater than ourselves.

This understanding quietly informs the way I teach.

I am not interested in yoga as performance, achievement or something to master. Nor do I believe that every practice needs to be physically demanding to be meaningful. I am interested in the quieter dimensions of yoga: awareness, breath, presence, surrender, stillness, oneness and the intelligence of the body.

My own journey has involved learning to step away from noise, pressure and constant doing, and to recognise that there is wisdom in a different rhythm. A rhythm that allows us to listen. To notice what is needed. To stop pushing against ourselves.

This is what I hope to offer through my work.

My sessions draw from restorative yoga, pranayama, yoga nidra, contemplative practice and the deeper philosophy of yoga. They are spaces to put down the need to perform and simply be with yourself for a while.

There is no ideal version of you that you need to become before you arrive.

You can come tired.
You can come overwhelmed.
You can come exactly as you are.

We make space for the body to rest, for the breath to become quieter, and for awareness to turn inward. Blankets, cushions, bolsters, breath and stillness become supports for a practice that is less about doing more and more about being present to what is already here.

For me, this is not simply relaxation.

It is a way of returning.

Returning to the body.
Returning to the breath.
Returning to the heart.

Rest as devotion.
